The One-hundred Kingdoms
Most of the area west of Kolos Jamorda is a warren of independent city states and small feudal kingdoms. Actual political lines change often, as do alliances and enmities amongst the various nations. They are sometimes called the Hundred Free Cities or the Hundred Kingdoms, or just the Hundred when referenced in a group but in this case, “hundred” is not a number so much as a way of saying “a lot.”
Kolos Jamorda is a city state in its own right, rather than a part of a larger nation, but is much larger than any of the Hundred and much more powerful as a political entity and is therefore usually considered separate from the Hundred. The political power of the Hundred lies mostly in their existence as a massive and diverse market for goods from other nations, and some raw materials and fine craft specializations of their own, combined with a stubborn tendency to resist outside influence.
